BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team begins its final homestand of the season, an eight-game stretch, with a midweek nonconference matchup against Queens.
The contest marks the second-to-last nonconference game of the regular season for the Camels. The matchup also marks the 100th game for the Camels under head coach
Emily Carosone.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The game will be streamed on FloCollege, with live statistics available. Fans in attendance can participate in Softball Bingo for a chance to win prizes.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Queens enters with an 11-26 overall record and a 3-12 mark in ASUN play. The Royals are on a four-game losing streak following a midweek loss to UNC Chapel Hill and a three-game ASUN series sweep at the hands of Jacksonville.
Two-way graduate student Lindsay Henson leads the Royals at the plate with a team-best .402 batting average, 15 home runs, 49 RBIs and an .889 slugging percentage. In the circle, she owns a 7.17 ERA over 54 2/3 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts. She was named ASUN Player of the Week on March 23. Queens is led by Kella Armstrong, who is in her third full season as head coach after finishing the 2023 campaign in the interim role.
SERIES HISTORY
Since joining the Division I ranks in 2023, Queens has faced Campbell five times, with the Camels holding a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series. Campbell is 2-1 against the Royals in Buies Creek and has outscored Queens 27-17 overall.
The teams last met March 18, 2025, for a doubleheader in Charlotte. Campbell won both games, taking the opener 2-1 before earning an 8-6 extra-inning victory in the nightcap. The second game was decided in the ninth inning, when
Alyssa Armijo and
Charlie Montgomery scored on wild pitches. Seven of Campbell's 10 starters from that game remain on the roster. Queens' lone win in the series came April 24, 2024, in the second game of a doubleheader in Buies Creek.
LAST TIME OUT
Campbell secured its fourth CAA series win of the season, taking two of three from CAA North leader Hofstra. The Camels opened the series with a 10-1, five-inning victory Friday, scoring in every inning.
Charlie Montgomery went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Katelyn Hubley earned the win, allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out five in a complete game.
Campbell dropped Saturday's game before responding with a shutout in the rubber match. Hubley delivered a career performance, striking out a career-high 11 in a complete-game shutout. She threw 96 pitches, including 69 strikes, over seven innings, allowing just two hits and no walks. The freshman recorded consecutive strikeouts in the third, fourth and fifth innings and added two more in the seventh, including the final out. The victory was the 14th of her career and her fourth shutout, all against CAA opponents.more in the seventh, including the game's final out.
