BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball dropped its first conference series of the season falling to Elon, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
Campbell drops to 25-14 overall and 17-4 in league play while Elon improves to 16-23 overall and 8-13 in CAA action. The Camels drop its first series in CAA play this season.
Campbell (25-14, 17-4 CAA) opened the scoring in the first frame as
Jonah Oster launched a two-run home run to left field to make it 2-0 early.
Elon (16-23, 8-13 CAA) answered quickly with plating a pair of runs on back-to-back base hits before taking the lead in the third on an RBI single making it 3-1.
The Camels responded to even things up in the third as
Lukas Schramm ripped a double to left center before taking the lead in the fifth on a
Carlos Lugo's third home run of the season to make it 4-3 after five.
The Phoenix scored a combined four runs in the sixth and seventh on a bases loaded RBI hit by pitch and three-run homer. Elon's offense continued in the ninth to extend its lead 10-4.
Campbell scored its final run in the ninth on two-out RBI single by Lugo to cut into the deficit but a foul out to first ended the threat.
Schramm led the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while Lugo went 2-for-5 with two RBI, homer, and a run scored. Oster went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Owen Simmons (3-2) took the loss on the mound in relief allowing the go-ahead run in the seventh.
