Campbell secures win over William & Mary, 5-2

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Campbell baseball secured the series opener, 5-2, over William & Mary on Thursday night at Plumeri Park. 

Campbell improves to 19-10 overall and 12-1 in CAA play while William & Mary falls to 12-16 and 4-6 in league action. 

After three scoreless innings, William & Mary struck first in the bottom of the fourth to take an early 1-0 lead. 

Campbell (19-10, 12-1 CAA) quickly answered to take the lead scoring three runs on four hits in the fifth. Andrew Schuldt led off the inning with infield single before Darnell Parker Jr. registered his first hit of the season, a two-run home run to left. The scoring continued as Joe Simpson drew a walk before back-to-back singles loaded the bases for Joey Morton plating a run on a sacrifice fly making it 3-1. 

The Camels added to its lead, 4-1,  in the sixth as Parker tallied his third RBI of the season with a single through the left side to score Logan Chapman who led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. 

Jett Music blasted his seventh home run of the year in the seventh to add to the lead, 5-1. Music now ties with Morton for the conference and team lead. 

William & Mary (12-16, 4-6 CAA) cut into the deficit after back-to-back hits to put runners in scoring position, the Tribe scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. 

Camden Wimbish (1-1) earned his first win as a Camel in 5.0 innings of work allowing just two hits on the night and collecting five strikeouts. 

Carlos Lugo extended his hitting streak to 15 games after going 2-for-4 and registered his team-high 12th multi-hit performance. Chapman and Parker Jr. tallied a multi-hit performance with two hits each.
