MT PLEASANT, S.C. — Campbell baseball powered past Charleston, 16-1, in seven innings on Friday night at Patriots Point.
The Camels blasted three two-run homers in the contest and
Carlos Lugo launched his first career grand slam in the seventh. Lugo went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored.
Campbell (27-14, 18-4 CAA) struck first in the second as
Jett Music blasted his eighth home run of the season to make it 2-0. Music launched a two-run shot to left field to score
Mike Murphy who led off the inning with a base hit.
The Camels offense continued in the third as Music punched a ball through the left side to plate a run before
Andrew Schuldt put down a sacrifice bunt to extend the lead 4-0.
Campbell continued to push runs across plating four in the fifth on a Schuldt two-RBI double off the foul pole and a two-run shot off the bat of
Logan Chapman to make it 8-0.
In the sixth,
Carlos Lugo led off the inning with his third hit of the game before scoring on a two-run homer from
Lukas Schramm to make it 10-0.
Charleston (20-21, 10-9 CAA) pushed a run across in the sixth to cut into the Camels lead on a RBI base hit.
Campbell quickly answered with six runs in the seventh highlighted by the Lugo grand slam.
Elijah Clayton drew a pinch hit RBI bases loaded walk and
Jarrett Martin tallied an RBI groundout to plate the final run.
Connor Hensley (3-1) earned the win pitching 6.2 innings allowing one run on five hits and picked up seven strikeouts.
Parker Webb closed out the game registering the final out of the contest.
Murphy and Music each registered a multi-hit performance tallying a pair of hits. Music and Schuldt each collected a trio of RBI while Schramm and Chapman added two.
