MT PLEASANT, S.C. — Campbell baseball outlasted Charleston, 12-8, in a back and forth contest on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point Athletics Complex.
The Camels improve to 28-14 overall and 19-4 in the CAA while Charleston drops to 20-22 and 10-10 in league play.
For the 16th time this season, Campbell struck in the opening frame as
Carlos Lugo tallied his fifth home run of the season to give the Camels an early 1-0 lead.
Charleston (20-22, 10-10 CAA) scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the opening frame to take the lead, 3-1.
The Camels answered with a run in the second as
Jett Music launched his first homer of the day, a solo shot to left field.
The Cougars momentum continued in the second scoring three runs on four hits to make it 6-2 after two innings.
Campbell (28-14, 19-4 CAA) took the lead again in the fourth scoring five runs on four hits to make it 7-6. Music led off the inning with his second home run in as Manu at bats before
Trent Rumley doubled down the left field line to score Andy Schuldt before stealing home.
Lukas Schramm tacked on the Camels final runs of the inning with a two-RBI base hit to center.
Charleston answered to tie things up in the fourth before taking the lead again in the sixth after back-to-back hits plated the run to make it 8-7.
The Camels would retake the lead for good in the seventh after
Logan Chapman tallied a double to left to score Music who led off the inning with a base hit. Rumley followed plating Chapman on an RBI sacrifice bunt.
Joey Morton added insurance in the eighth with his team leading 10th homer of the season, a solo shot to right field.
Elijah Clayton then drew a bases loaded hit by pitch to add another one in the frame.
Schramm tacked on the Camels final run of the inning on a solo home home run to left field. The long ball marked the sixth of the season for the redshirt junior.
Camden Wimbish (2-2) secured the win in relief for the Camels pitching 3.0 innings allowing one run on four hits and striking out three. Music (4) earned his fourth save of the season tossing the final 0.2 innings and recording a strikeout.
Eight Camels registered multi-hit performances highlighted by Music going 3-for-3 with two RBI, four runs scored and two walks. The squad tied its season high with 17 hits in the contest.
