Camels sweep Charleston with 6-4 win

MT PLEASANT, S.C. — Campbell baseball secured the series sweep with a 6-4 win over Charleston on Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point. 

Campbell improves to 29-14 overall and 20-4 in the CAA while Charleston drops to 20-23 and 10-11 in conference play. 

Campbell (29-14, 20-4 CAA) struck first for the 22nd time this season to take an early 1-0 lead in the first as Jonah Oster tallied an RBI double to score Carlos Lugo. Lugo tallied a base hit and Jett Music walked to put runners on base. 

The Camels added a trio of runs in the third for a 4-0 advantage. Music tallied an RBI groundout before Joey Morton launched his team lead 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. 

Charleston (20-23, 10-11 CAA) responded plating a run in the fourth and fifth innings on a RBI base hit and solo homer, respectively. 

Logan Chapman extended the lead back out to three in sixth driving in Mike Murphy on a base hit. Murphy got the offense going on a double down the left field line to get into scoring position. 

Jett Music added insurance in the ninth with his fourth home run in three days, a solo shot to left field to make it 6-2. The long ball tied Morton for 11 on the season. 

The Cougars opened the ninth with back-to-back walks before an RBI double and groundout plated two runs to get within two but a groundout to short ended the game for the final 6-4. 

Zach Sabers (2-2) pitched a season-long 5.2 innings surrendering two runs on five hits and picking up three strikeouts. Beau Brailey secured his third save of the season in the final 0.2 innings. 

Campbell has hit a home run in eight straight games. Chapman led the offense going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI while Lugo, Morton, and Oster each tallied a pair of hits. 

Lugo extends his hitting streak to eight games and leads the team with 20 multi-hit performances.
