WILMINGTON, N.C. — Campbell baseball cruised past UNCW, 6-3, on Friday night at Brooks Field. The Camels clinched its ninth conference series of the season.
The trio of
David Rossow,
Caleb White, and
Owen Simmons combined to scatter seven hits and allowing just three runs. The staff picked up nine strikeouts. White (1-0) picked up his first win and Simmons (1) picked up his first save as a Camel.
The Camels picked up its 25th win in conference play tying the most for a team in Coastal Athletic Association history. The squad moved to 38-15 overall and 25-4 in conference play while the Seahawks fell to 28-25 overall and 16-13 in CAA play.
Campbell (38-15, 25-4 CAA) jumped out to an early 3-0 in the opening frame as
Jett Music led off the game with a solo home run marking his 19th of the season.
Joey Morton followed with a double before scoring on a
Logan Chapman RBI-single. Chapman would go on to score from second on a wild pitch and a Seahawk miscue for the final run of the inning.
The Camels continued the scoring in the second on an RBI-double from Music for his second RBI of the game making it 4-0.
UNCW (28-25, 16-13 CAA) cut into the lead in the third scoring a pair of runs on three hits to make it 4-2.
After three scoreless innings, Music launched his second solo home run of the game marking his 20th of the season. The Camels added another run in the eighth when
Elijah Clayton scored on a wild pitch.
The Seahawks looked to do damage in the ninth with a lead off double and a two-out RBI single but Simmons struck out the final batter to secure the series.
Music and Morton led the offense with multi-hit performances going 3-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively. Music added three RBI and Chapman added one.
