WILMINGTON, N.C. — Campbell baseball set a new Coastal Athletic Association wins record after earning its 26th win in conference play against UNCW, 12-4, on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Field.
The Camels 26th win marks the most conference wins in CAA history as it moved to 39-15 overall and 26-4 in CAA play.
UNCW got on the board first in the second frame on an RBI single up the middle after registering a triple taking an early 1-0 lead.
Campbell (39-15, 26-4 CAA) quickly answered in the third on a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle from
Carlos Lugo and never surrendered the lead.
The Camels exploded for six runs on five hits in the fourth making it 8-1 after three.
Joey Morton and
Andrew Schuldt worked back-to-back base hits before moving up a base on a
Mike Murphy sacrifice bunt. Morton would score on the play after a Seahawk miscue.
Logan Chapman punt down a bunt single to load the bases followed by
Elijah Clayton's two-RBI single up the middle.
Jett Music followed with his 21st homer of the season, a three-run shot to right field.
UNCW plated two in the fifth on a two-run homer to get within five but once again the Camels answered in the top of the next frame.
Trent Rumley put the offense in motion in the sixth with a four pitch walk before advancing to scoring position on a pinch hit double from
Andrew Keller and would go on to score on
Jarrett Martin's pinch hit RBI double. Darnell Parker and
Mike Murphy drove in a run after collecting a base hit to finish off the frame to make it 12-3.
The Seahawks added a run in the sixth for the final 12-4.
Mason Smith (2-1) picked up the win in relief allowing three runs on two hits and picking up three strikeouts.
Zach Sabers earned the start working 4.0 innings allowing one run on three hits and collecting four strikeouts.
Braxton Shaffer and
Parker Webb registered the final six out.
Chapman and Clayton secured multi-hit performances with a pair of hits.

The Camels await their opponent for the CAA Championships beginning on Wednesday, May 20. Campbell will likely be the No. 1 seed and play on Thursday, May 21 at 3 p.m. at Brooks Field.
