WILMINGTON, N.C. – Behind a dominant performance from CAA Pitcher of the Year
David Rossow, top-seeded Campbell baseball opened the CAA Championship with a 3-1 win over sixth-seeded UNCW on Thursday afternoon at Brooks Field.
The Camels picked up its 40
th win of the season marking the first 40-win season since 2023. With the win, the Camels move on to play at 7 p.m. on Friday night against either No. 2 Northeastern or No. 5 Hofstra.
David Rossow (10-1) picked up his 10
th win of the season on the mound to tie for the third-most in a single season. The right-hander pitched 7.2 innings surrendering just one run on six hits and picking up seven strikeouts. His seven strikeouts are the fourth most in a single season and Rossow becomes just the fifth camel with 100 strikeouts in a season.
Campbell (39-15) struck first in the fourth as
Jonah Oster registered his 12
th homer of the season launching a solo shot to right field to give the Camels the 1-0 lead.
The Camels extended its lead in the fifth with a pair of runs on three hits to go up 3-0. After a leadoff groundout,
Mike Murphy walked and
Lukas Schramm singled before
Jett Music blooped a single down the right field line for the first run of the inning. Oster registered his second RBI of the game on a base hit to left.
UNCW (29-27) cut into the lead in the eighth on an RBI sac fly after a leadoff single to make it 3-1.
Oster was the lone Camel to tally a multi-hit performance after leading the offense going 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs driven in. Three additional Camels registered hits in the contest.
Braxton Shaffer (3) picked up the save tossing the final 1.1 innings and striking out the final batter of the game.
