BUIES CREEK — Campbell baseball shutout NC A&T, 8-0, to clinch the Coastal Athletic Association South Division Championship on Saturday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Camels take the CAA South title for the first time in program history after improving to 32-14 and 22-4 in conference play.
A trio of pitchers combined to toss the second shutout of the season after shutting out the Aggies earlier in the season 10-0.
David Rossow (9-1) earned his conference lead ninth win of the season in his final appearance at Jim Perry Stadium. Rossow threw 6.2 innings scattering five hits and striking out six.
Beau Brailey and
Owen Simmons saw time in relief combining to toss the final 2.1 innings and did not surrender a hit.
Campbell (32-14, 22-4 CAA) got on the board in the second inning as
Andrew Schuldt tallied a base hit to score
Lukas Schramm to make it 1-0 early.
The lead was extended in the third when
Joey Morton launched his team leading 13th home run of the year. The solo shot came off the bat at 101 mph and was blasted 425 feet.
The Camels scored a pair of runs on two hits in the fourth push the lead, 4-0. Schuldt and
Logan Chapman pulled off a double steal after Chapman led off the inning with a base hit before Schuldt drew a walk.
The offense exploded for four runs in the sixth tallying four consecutive hits to push the lead to 8-0.
Andrew Keller plated the first run of the inning on an RBI single before
Carlos Lugo and
Jonah Oster registered back-to-back doubles and Morton tallied a base hit.
Campbell collected 13 hits in the contest from nine different batters. Lugo extended his hitting streak to 11 games after going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Morton, Chapman, and Schuldt each collected a pair of hits.
