WILMINGTON, N.C. – Joey Morton blasted a three-run home run in the sixth to lift Campbell baseball to the Coastal Athletic Association Championship on Saturday morning at Brooks Field.
The Camels improve to 41-15 overall and await the winner of No. 2 Northeastern and No. 5 Hofstra on Saturday afternoon. If Northeastern wins the Camels will play at 7 p.m. for the Championship and if Hofstra wins the game will be played tomorrow.
Campbell (41-15) broke through a scoreless tie in the fourth as
Carlos Lugo led off the inning with a single before scoring on a Pride miscue to give the Camels a 1-0 lead.
Joey Morton's 21st homer of the season in the sixth extended the Camels lead 4-0. Lugo scored on the play after registering his second hit of the game.
Hofstra cut into the lead in the seventh with a pair of runs via a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. The Camels responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo homer off the bat of
Logan Chapman. The long ball was the fifth of the season for the junior.
The Pride put the tying run at the plate in the ninth after a leadoff home run but Lugo earned his second save of the season picking up a strikeout for the final out.
Zach Sabers was dominate on the mound pitching 6.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits and fanning two. The Camels used four additional pitchers who combined to allow one run on three hits.

The Camels move on to play in the CAA Championship game that is to be determined. If Northeastern wins the Camels will play at 7 p.m. for the Championship and if Hofstra wins the game will be played tomorrow.
