Camels set for winner-take-all CAA title game tomorrow

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Top-Seeded Campbell baseball is set for a winner-take-all Coastal Athletic Association title game tomorrow after dropping its contest against No. 2 Northeastern on Saturday night at Brooks Field.

The Camels were held to just four hits on the night and left 11 runners on base.

After a scoreless four innings, Northeastern broke through in the fifth scoring a pair of runs on a two-run home run to right field. The Huskies added to its lead in the sixth exploding for five runs on three hits and a Camel miscue.

Campbell (41-16) cut into the deficit in the sixth scoring a pair of runs to make it 7-2. Joey Morton put the Camels on the board registering a RBI single to score Music who led off the inning with a hit by pitch. The offense worked the bases loaded before pinch hitter Andrew Keller recorded an RBI hit by pitch.

Jett Music brought the Camels within three in the seventh on his 22nd home run of the season. The sophomore blasted a two-run shot to deep left field to make it 7-4 after seven.

The Camels worked the leadoff man on in the eighth, but a quick three outs limited the threat. In the ninth, the Camels brought the tying run to the plate with runners on the corners but the Huskies once again worked to get out of the jam.

Connor Hensley (4-2) suffered the loss in 5.0 innings pitched allowing four runs on four hits. Owen Simmons and Mason Smith saw time on the mound and combined for the final four innings.
