DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomores
Kana Dube and
Jayco Castro each scored their first goals in a Campbell uniform, but the Camels fell to the Seton Hall Pirates, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.
Seton Hall (1-1) jumped out to an early lead in the third minute. Joaquin Brizuela put his effort on goal where it was parried away by Campbell (1-1) goalkeeper
David Skorodumov. Nico Rubio was first to the rebound, and he set up his teammate Mikkel Lejbowicz for the opening goal.
Lejbowicz doubled the Pirates' lead in the 21
st minute with his second goal of the day.
The Camels drew back to within one in the 28
th minute. Skorodumov sent the ball past the halfway line on a goal kick, and Campbell's high press eventually forced Seton Hall into an errant pass that was intercepted by
Augustus Squillace. He attacked the keeper one-on-one down the right side of the box before passing it to the center of the box into the path of Dube.
Dube fought off the defender and slotted the ball home for the first net-rippler of the season and his career.
The Pirates extended the lead back to two goals in the 77
th minute as Rubio earned his second assist of the day, this time setting up Samuel Sansone.
The Fighting Camels immediately responded in the 78
th minute to draw back to within one once again. CU earned a throw by its bench, and
James Jenkin sent his long throw-in into the attacking box.
Squillace was first to it, and he headed it on along the face of goal. Castro was left alone, and he calmly headed the ball into the lower left corner of goal for his first in a Campbell uniform.
The Camels continued to threaten for the final 10 minutes, but SHU goalkeeper Devin Armstrong saved the sole effort that was on frame. He ended the match with five saves.
For Campbell, Skorodumov collected seven saves, one off his career-high set at Franklin Pierce. The Camels earned five corners to Seton Hall's three, and the Pirates committed 12 fouls to Campbell's seven.

The Camels have their first CAA match of the season on Friday, as they travel to South Carolina to take on Charleston. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00, and the action will be streamed on FloCollege.
