CONWAY, S.C. — Campbell women's soccer falls short of a comeback against Coastal Carolina, 2-1, on Sunday night at Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium.
Campbell moves to 2-3-1 on the season while Coastal Carolina improves to 4-1 overall.
Coastal Carolina (4-1) scored a pair of goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead heading into the half. The Chanticleers opened the scoring in the 9th minute before doubling its lead in the 21st minute.
Campbell (2-3-1) picked up the offensive momentum in the second half with 11 shots and
Olivia Vandre found the back of the net in the 76th minute off the assist from
Gretchen Baker to cut into the deficit 2-1. Vandre's goal marks her second in as many games and the third of her career.
With under a minute left in the match,
Gillian Garrison drew a foul just outside of the box but couldn't convert on the free kick to even the score. The Chanticleer defense held the Camels to three corners and tallied four saves in the second half.
The Camels led with 14 shots and five corners while the Chanticleers took 11 shots and four corners.
Abby Connolly led the Camels with three shots on goal while Anais van Doesburg registered three saves on the night.
