Camels drop contest against Phoenix

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell dropped its second CAA contest of the season, falling to Elon 3-0 Saturday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

Elon (2-2-1) earned its first CAA win of the year, moving to 1-1-1 in league play, while the Camels fell to 0-6 (0-2 CAA).

The teams were scoreless through the first 45 minutes, although Elon controlled much of the pace of play. The visitors recorded 11 shots in the first half, compared to Cambell's lone effort.

The Phoenix opened the scoring in the 50th minute, as Dominik Renz drew a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick. Oscar Tonidandel converted the try.

Elon added its second goal in the 67th minute. Caleb Frakes put an effort on frame that was parried by the Campbell goalkeeper, but Renz was first to the rebound and slotted it home.

Jahmir Flowers added the final tally of the night in the 72nd minute.

Kaeden Johnson came on in relief of an injured David Skorodumov in the 14th minute. Johnson finished the game with six saves, while Elon's Drew Hartman recorded two. Augustus Squillace and Hilmar Hilmarsson put those efforts on frame for the Camels.
