BUIES CREEK – Campbell opened CAA play with a four-set win over UNCW, with each of the three set wins by at least ten points.
The Camels improve to 5-7, 1-0 in the league, while UNCW drops to 5-8, 0-1.
The Fighting Camels hit a season-best .292 on the evening behind 15 kills from
Emma McCartney and 13 from
Victoria Tupy. Tupy hit a team-best .379 with just two errors in her 29 attempts.
Campbell jumped out to an early 11-2 lead and never looked back to take the opening frame 25-13. Tupy got off to a roaring start with five kills on seven swings in the early going.
UNCW responded with a 25-20 second set with some efficient offense, hitting .387 and committing only two attack errors in the second.
Campbell regrouped and rolled through the final two sets, hitting .429 in the third to win 25-12, and closing out the match 25-15 in the fourth set.
The Camels were solid at the service line with a season-high 13 aces, seven from
Hannah Pattie to more than double her previous career-high. Pattie also dished out 22 assists with 13 digs to log her team-leading fifth double-double of the year.
UNCW was led by nine kills from Nadia Wasilewski and 23 assists from Gaby Zovko.
The Camels and Seahawks square off again tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Buies Creek.
