BUIES CREEK – The Camels settled for a weekend split with UNCW after a four-set loss to the Seahawks on Saturday.
Campbell drops to 5-8, 1-1 with the loss, while UNCW moves to 6-8, 1-1.
Emma McCartney and
Leah Freesemann led all players with 17 kills each, marking a new career-high for Freesemann. McCartney also added a team-high 17 digs to her line, her second 17 & 17 match of the season.
Hannah Pattie led the Camels with 27 assists.
Five service-set errors cost the Camels in a narrow 25-23 first set defeat. McCartney and McMillan logged four kills each while Campbell hit a steady .286 early on.
UNCW added another with a 25-22 second set, holding the CU offense to hitting .073 with 11 attack errors.
Campbell flipped the score in the third set to win it 25-22 and keep the match alive. The Camels were down 19-18 before a 5-0 run put them up for good in the fame. The defense held UNCW to .125 while the offense hit .345 for the best mark of the day.
UNCW finished things off with yet another 25-22 decision in the fourth set.
Leah Freesemann put away six kills in the final frame to try and keep the Camels in it, but three UNCW aces, including two of their final four points, proved the difference in the fourth.
UNCW was led by Nadia Wasilewski's 16 kills.
The Camels return to action next weekend on Long Island to face Hofstra in a 2025 CAA Championship rematch. First serve on Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
