WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Two goals in the second half carried William & Mary to a 2-1 win over Campbell Saturday evening at Martin Family Stadium.
The Camels fell to 0-8-1 and 0-4 in CAA play, while the Tribe improved to 4-4-1 (2-1-1 CAA).
Campbell outshot the home team in the first half, 5-3, but the teams entered the locker room locked at 0-0.
Davis Reid had a chance from outside the box in the 12
th minute, but his effort missed just a few feet left of frame.
William & Mary opened the scoring in the 50
th minute off the boot of Gabe Ruitenberg with an assist from Alex Kochell. The Tribe doubled its lead with a goal from Alex Garrison in the 61
st minute, preceded by assists from Aidan Gatchell and Aaron Jimenez.
Xander Martin responded for the Camels in the 62
nd minute with his second goal of the season. The Camels sent a free kick towards the penalty spot, and William & Mary's clearance effort only went as far as Martin, who was waiting outside the box. His half-volley attempt stayed low and bounced once before it passed by the left side of the goalkeeper into the net.
The Camels continued to apply pressure, getting two shots off in the final two and a half minutes, but the Tribe's defense held firm.
