Campbell comeback comes up short against Wofford

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels brought one back in the closing minutes against Wofford, but Campbell fell to Wofford 2-1 Saturday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The Terriers (3-0-1) scored the opening goal in the 38th minute to take the lead into halftime. Fabian Menendez attacked the box in transition and crossed the ball across the face of goal, where Max Talley was waiting to pass it into the net.

Wofford doubled its lead in the 57th minute, as Henry Boner sent a cross into the box. Franklin Spires rose highest to meet it and headed it into the top right corner.

Campbell found the back of the net in the 84th minute thanks to a Wofford own goal. Jayco Castro sent a low cross from the right side, where a Terrier was unable to make a proper clearance.

Each team recorded seven shots in the second half, but Wofford held the advantage in the first. The Fighting Camels had three more corner kick opportunities, and David Skorodumov made three saves between the pipes.
