Jacksonville Rebounds With 65-51 Win
Over Campbell
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior center Tabari Brown tied a
career high with
16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the
season to lead Jacksonville to a 65-51 win over Campbell Thursday
night in Atlantic Sun action at Swisher Gymnasium. The win is the
599th career victory for head coach Hugh Durham, who can become the
10th active Division I coach with 600 career wins when the Dolphins
host Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 7
p.m. JU (8-10, 3-3 A-Sun) has won four of its last five games,
while Campbell (4-12, 1-5) lost for the ninth time in the
last 10 games.
Calvin Warner added 15 points, nine boards and three steals for JU,
which forced Campbell into a season-high 21 turnovers and had 13 steals. The
Dolphins also out rebounded the Camels, 44-31, and limited them to just
6-of-23 shooting from outside the arc. JU dominated the
inside, outscoring
Campbell 42-22 in the paint and scored 16 second-chance
points.
Senior center Ryan Lewis had five points and five rebounds in 12 minutes
off the bench, while back-up point guard Riley Didion finished
with a career-high five points, three rebounds and three steals filling in
for Kevin Sheppard, who had just eight points in 24
minutes because of early foul trouble.
JU used an 11-0 run late in the first half to turn a 20-19
deficit into a 30-20 lead at the 2:10 mark.
Didion stole the ball from Brooks Lee and went the length of the court for
his second consecutive lay-up to give JU a 36-24 halftime advantage.
Campbell's Jonte Edwards, who finished with 10 points on
5-of-6 shooting,
scored the first basket of the second half, but JU answered
with a 9-0 run to
take a 45-26 lead at the 15:53 mark. James Daniels' three-pointer
with 2:49 to play gave the Dolphins their largest lead, 65-43.
Tarick Johnson, the second-leading scorer in the Atlantic Sun,
finished with14 points to lead the Camels, who shot just 1-of-5
from the free throw line as the Dolphins committed a
season-low nine fouls. [Box
