Camels Use Entire Team Effort in 14-0 Win Over Princeton
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Campbell left-hander Jeff Stovall pitched
seven shut out innings and the Camel offense provided a season high
fourteen runs and twenty-one hits on their way to a 14-0 victory
over Princeton, Monday night in Buies Creek.
Stovall, who walked just one batter while striking out four,
combined with Josh Blades and Brandon Yates to record Campbell's
second shut out of the season. Stovall at one point retired sixteen
Princeton batters in a row.
The Camels struck for three first inning runs, highlighted by
Jason Brown's two-run, home run over the left field fence. Brown's
home run knocked in Tom Rispoli and gave Brown his third homer of
the year.
CU built on its lead in the third inning when Josh Cotten
doubled to lead off the inning. Jason Brown walked, followed by a
Kyle Ellenz single and an error by Princeton center fielder Mark
Grayson, allowing Cotten to score. Phillip Strickland knocked home
both Ellenz and Brown to give CU a 6-0 lead.
Alston Hatch knocked home Ellenz in the eighth inning to give
the Camels a 7-0 lead. CU capitalized on and error by the Tigers
left fielder Eric Fitzgerald to extend their lead to 8-0.
In the eighth inning, the Camels scored six times, including
four runs with two-men out to take a 14-0 lead.
Jason Brown started things off with a one-out double and moved
to third on a wild pitch. Ellenz drove Brown home with a of his
own. With two-outs, Hatch tripled off the center field fence,
scoring Ellenz. Strickland collected his third RBI of the game,
driving Ellenz in on a double to right field. Ripoli finished the
scoring driving in Blick, who had tripled and Nic Ewing.
Every Camel starter collected a hit led by Blick and
Strickland with four. Rispoli and Strickland each had a team high
three RBI.
With the win the Camels improve to 5-14 overall, while the
Tigers fall to 1-9.
The Camels will be at home Wednesday as they take on East
Carolina at 7:00 p.m.and the Tiger will play tomorrow in Chapel
Hill versus UNC. [Box
