Camels Fall at Troy State 120-82
TROY,
ALA. The Troy State Trojans hit 21 three-pointers en route
to a 120-82 victory over the Campbell University men's basketball
team Wednesday night in Atlantic Sun action.
Troy
State remains in second place in the Atlantic Sun at 13-5 overall
and 9-2 in league action. Campbell falls to 1-17 overall and 1-10
in the A-Sun.
Rob
Lewin led all scorers with 21 points, while Greg Davis had a
double-double with 14 points and 14 assists.
The
Camels were led by senior Tarick Johnson's 16 points and a
career-high 16 rebounds. Junior Dominique Klein (13), freshman
Colin Hunt (12), and freshman Anthony Atkinson (11) rounded out
Campbell's top scorers on the evening. Atkinson also had seven
assists in the game which tied a season-high.
Johnson
moved into the top-20 on Campbell's all-time scoring list tying Don
Whaley for the No. 19 spot with 1,118 career points.
The
story of the game was in Troy State's shooting as they went
42-of-82 (.512) from the field and hit 21-of-51 from behind the
arc. Zavier Mathis led TSU with six treys going 6-of-11 from
downtown, while Johnson hit five treys of his own. Campbell shot
29-of-78 from the field and hit just 4-of-25 from behind the
arc.
Campbell
did out-rebound the Trojans 52-39 which was a season-high for CU.
The Camels' 82 points was the fourth highest scoring production of
the season.
Troy
State jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the first 3:30 of the game
hitting four consecutive three-pointers. The Trojans hit 11
three-pointers in the first half en route to a 60-37 half-time
lead.
Troy
State shot 12-of-24 from beyond the arc, while Campbell managed
only 2-of-16 (.125).
Jarvis
Acker and Lewin each led TSU with 11 points in the first period,
while Kendrick Johnson added 10 points.
Hunt
paced Campbell with 11 points going 4-of-6 from the field and
Atkinson scored nine points.
Despite
a 7-2 run to start the second half by Campbell, Kendrick Johnson
hit three consecutive treys to push the Trojan lead to 70-48.
Campbell had cut TSU's lead to 18 prior to Johnson's three-point
spree, but was never able to recover after that spurt.
Klein
produced 10 of his 13 points and Tarick Johnson hit 11 of his 16
total points in the second half. The game was the third
consecutive double-figure scoring effort for Klein and Johnson's
13th double-figure scoring game of the season.
The
Campbell men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday,
January 31st as the Fighting Camels host Lipscomb at
1:00 p.m. The game will air in the Raleigh and Fayetteville media
