Hot-Shooting UCF Defeats Campbell 90-73 In A-Sun Men's
Basketball
ORLANDO, FLA.
Red-hot UCF made 61 percent of its shots and defeated visiting
Campbell 90-73 Thursday night in Atlantic Sun Conference men's
basketball action at UCF Arena.
Kingsley Edwards led
UCF (6-1, 1-1) with a career-high 19 points, making 5-of-8 threes
on the night. Anthony Williams added 18 on 9-of-10 from the floor,
while Gary Johnson had 13 and seven assists.
UCF hit 35-of-57 shots
on the evening, 23-of-31 from inside the three-point line, and
committed just seven turnovers. Campbell made 49 percent of its
shots, but just 38 percent (13-34) in the second half.
Freshman Ruell Pringle
topped the Fighting Camels (2-5, 0-2) with a season-high 25 points,
including five triples. Junior transfer Maurice Latham added 22,
plus seven rebounds and Anthony Atkinson 10.
The defending A-Sun
champion Golden Knights hit 11-18 three pointers (.611) in the
first half, then made 10 of their first 11 shots from 2-point range
in the first 11:55 of the second to stretch the gap to
74-54.
Edwards canned four
treys, while Peppers and Johnson added three each for UCF in the
first half. Edwards' triple from the right corner at the buzzer
gave UCF a 48-38 cushion at the break.
Campbell trailed by 10
at the half despite shooting 66.7 percent (14-21) from the field.
However, UCF made 62 percent of its shots (18-29) in the opening
stanza, 7-11 from 2-point range.
Latham had 15 points
and Pringle 10 in the first period.

Campbell's Latham and UCF's
Williams were teammates the last two years at Indian Hills (Iowa)
CC where they helped lead their teams to a 47-17 record.
