Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
Golden Ingle scored 20 second-half points and hit what
proved to be the game-winning three-pointer with 31 seconds to play
and Kennesaw State won an 81-77 see-saw battle over Campbell Monday
night at Carter Gym.
The Owls (6-8, 4-1)
won their second-straight league road game after Friday's 74-68
upset at pre-season favorite Gardner-Webb. Campbell (4-9, 3-3)
dropped its second-straight at home in a game where the lead
changed 12 times and the score was tied on six other
occasions.
Freshman Andre Morgan
scored a season-high 30 points, 21 in the first half, for Kennesaw
State, while Ronnell Wooten added 12. Ingle finished with 21
points, hitting 10-of-13 from the line.
Jake Wohlfeil and
Ruell Pringle each hit season highs with 19 points for the Fighting
Camels. Maurice Latham added 13 on 6-of-7 shooting, plus eight
rebounds. Reggie Bishop had 10, while Comerlee Poole grabbed a
game-high 12 rebounds and Ledell Eackles dealt 10
assists.
Campbell's second-leading
scorer, Eric Smith, who entered the game averaging 16.2 points, was
held scoreless on 0-6 shooting.
The Owls hit 33-of-41
(.805) free throws to overcome a 50-30 deficit on the glass.
Campbell made just 14-of-29 (.483) from the line and committed 22
turnovers, which Kennesaw turned into 30 points.
Kennesaw State jumped
to an early 21-7 lead on Brent Ragsdale's three with 14:09 left in
the opening half. Campbell, however, answered with a 16-2 run and
knotted the score at 23-all on Pringle's free throws with 6:42
remaining.
The Owls led 38-33 at
the break, converting 12 Campbell first-half miscues into 20
points. Campbell made just 39 percent (12-31) of its first-half
field goal attempts and missed 7-of-13 foul shots during the
period.
Campbell built its largest lead
of the night (56-49) on Diego Aguiar's lay-in with 10:57 left.
Pringle scored the first eight points of the 10-0 run on a pull-up
jumper and a pair of triples.
Neither team led by
more than four over the final 10:00. Pringle's lay-up with 1:38 to
go broke a 73-73 tie, but Wooten answered with a three from the
right corner on the following possession.
Pringle then knocked
down a pair of free throws with 1:02 to go, before Ingle made his
first three of the night (after four-straight misses) from the
right wing as the shot clock wound down.
Bishop missed a three,
then Ingle canned two foul shots with 21 seconds to go for what
proved to be the final margin.
The Camels saw their
string of three-straight 90-plus point performances come to an
end. CU shot 41.5 percent (27-65) from the floor on the night and
hit 9-of-29 threes.
