CREEK,
N.C. - Campbell improved to 8-0 at the Eakes Complex on Saturday
with a 4-0 men's soccer win over Atlantic Sun Conference rival
Lipscomb in front of a record crowd of 1857 on Homecoming
Day.
Willy Guadarrama scored twice and assisted on another goal, while
Richard Jata had two assists in the Fighting Camels' largest
offensive output of the season. Vince Petrasso and Kyle Proctor
added strikes for Campbell, which tallied three times in a 3:52
span late in the first half to break open a scoreless
match.
Campbell (9-5-2, 4-1-2) extended its unbeaten streak to six matches
(5-0-1), while Lipscomb (5-9-2, 1-5-1) is winless in its last six
outings (0-5-1) after giving up four goals for the third-straight
contest.
Bisons keeper Danny Prichard tipped Richard Jata's free kick over
the bar in the 36th minute and then snared Josh Elliott's
half-volley just after 40 minutes of action.
Guadarrama broke the scoreless tie in the 41 minute when he netted
a penalty kick after a Bisons player was whistled for a handball in
the box.
Just 28 seconds later, the Camels doubled their lead when Michael
Hutchison played a ball over the top that Jata headed on to
Petrasso. The freshman from Woodbridge, Ontario slotted a
right-footed shot inside Prichard's far post for his second goal of
the year.
With just 18 seconds remaining before the half, sophomore transfer
Kyle Proctor netted his first strike in a Camel uniform. Matt
Lightner played a pass down the right flank to Guadarrama, who
squared the ball across the box to Proctor and the Temple, Texas
product found the net on a first-time effort.
Guadarrama collected his second goal of the game and his seventh of
the year in the 63rd minute when Jata slipped a pass through the
back four and the Cedar Park, Texas native beat Prichard
one-on-one.
Lipscomb forward Ben Page narrowly missed putting the Bisons on the
board in the 67th minute when his right-footed effort slipped over
the bar. Campbell keepers Aaron Johnson and Bryce Kenny combined
for eight saves in the Fighting Camels' fourth shutout of the
season.
Campbell lowered its goals-against average to 1.03, best in the
A-Sun in front of the largest crowd in the 20-year history of the
Eakes Complex. Campbell drew a then-record 1481 spectators to its
1-0 victory over North Carolina on Oct. 10. CU has not trailed at
home since the opening match of the season and has outscored its
visitors by a 21-5 margin in those games.
The Camels finished with a 19-14 edge in shots, 10-7 in shots on
goal, and took four corner kicks to a pair for the Bisons. Campbell
hosts the College of Charleston on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., in the
final home match of the season.
