BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Courtney
Pigram scored a game-high 24 points and dealt eight assists to lead
five East Tennessee State players in double figures and send the
Buccaneers to a 100-76 Atlantic Sun men's basketball win over
Campbell Tuesday night at Carter Gym.
The Bucs (11-7, 5-1) shot 68
percent from the floor in the second half and extended a 15-point
half-time lead to as many as 29. Campbell (7-7, 2-2) lost for the
first time at home this year after posting six-straight wins at
Carter Gym.
Brad Nuckles added 22 points
and 13 rebounds for ETSU, while Mike Smith came off the bench to
score 14. Eryk Thomas and Andrew Reed each chipped in 12 points.
Freshman Dequan Twilley dealt a season-high 10 assists.
A sophomore from Memphis,
Pigram made 6-of-8 threes on the night, including 4-of-5 in the
first half. ETSU finished the contest hitting 56.9 percent (37-65)
of its shots as a team, 9-of-16 from 3-point range
(.563).
Jonathan Rodriguez led the
Fighting Camels with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and eight
rebounds. Stephon Griffin added 11 points. Campbell connected on
only 37 percent of its shots on the night (23-62) - a season-low
total - and hit just 5-of-19 three-pointers (.263). CU entered the
game shooting 47 percent from the floor and averaging 85.1 points
per game, both tops in the A-Sun.
Campbell rode a 12-2 run to a 23-19
advantage with 6:53 left in the opening period. Colin Hunt's bucket
with 4:39 to play in the first period pushed the Camels in front
27-26. However, Reed's jumper started a 14-0 ETSU burst that the
Bucs stretched to a 19-3 first-half ending rally. ETSU hit 7-of-11
three-pointers in the opening period.
The Fighting Camels, who were
playing their fourth game in seven days, never were able to get
closer than 13 in the final period. Campbell entered the game
averaging 97.5 points through its first six home games, but fell 21
shy.
Campbell returns to action Saturday at
Mercer in a 7:00 p.m. start. ETSU hosts North Florida Saturday at
4:00 p.m. [Box Score]
