COLUMBIA, S.C. South
Carolina's three-guard lineup combined for 55 points and the
Gamecocks defeated visiting Campbell 92-52 Wednesday night at the
Colonial Center.
Devan Downey and Brandis
Raley-Ross scored 20 points each, while Zam Fredrick added 15 for
the Gamecocks (4-3), who broke open a close game late in the first
half.
Downey hit 4-of-8 threes, Raley-Ross
connected on 6-of-7 from long range and Fredrick canned 2-of-3 for
USC, which made 16-of-28 (.571) triples on the night. Downey added four steals and Sam
Muldrow had five blocks.
Reggie Bishop led Campbell
(2-4) with 15 points, hitting four threes. Jonathan Rodriguez added 12 points and
Kyle Vejraska nine.
USC closed the first half on
a 16-2 run and led 45-25 at the break. Campbell made just 10 of its 27
first-half shots and had 12 turnovers in the same span.
Downey scored 15 first-half points,
including 3-of-4 from long range. Raley-Ross made 4-of-5 treys and had
12 points at the break. USC
knocked down 9-of-17 as a team from beyond the arc in the first 20
minutes.
Rodriguez entered the game
leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in both scoring (19.2) and
rebounding (11.2), but was held to a season-low 12 points on
5-of-10 shooting, plus seven rebounds.
South Carolina finished the night
shooting 54 percent (34-63) from the floor and converted 21
Campbell miscues into a 21-14 advantage in points off
turnovers.
Campbell held a 35-34 edge on the
boards, but shot just 38 percent (21-56) from the field, while
hitting 6-of-19 (.316) treys.
The Fighting Camels take a
nine-day break for final exams before traveling to Radford on Dec.
8 for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
South Carolina travels to Clemson Saturday in a 4:00 p.m.
