JACKSONVILLE, FLA. Marcus Allen
scored 17 of his season-high 25 points in the second half to lead
Jacksonville to a 77-66 Atlantic Sun Conference win over visiting
Campbell Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Lehmon Colbert added 12
points and eight rebounds for the Dolphins (11-9, 7-1), while Ben
Smith had 10 points. Ayron
Hardy chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.
Allen made 10-of-12 shots
from the field and 5-of-6 from the line for the game. JU converted 15 Campbell turnovers
into a 20-8 advantage on points off miscues and shot 53 percent
from the floor in the second half.
Jacksonville, which won its
second-straight and for the eighth time in nine outings,
out-rebounded Campbell 25-14 in the second half and had 14
second-chance points off 11 offensive boards in the final
period. The Dolphins closed
the game with a 40-31 advantage on the glass.
Jonathan Rodriguez led
Campbell (8-12, 3-5) with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his 10th
double-double of the year, but the A-Sun's leading scorer made just
5-of-13 from the field.
Jake Wohlfeil added 14 points, including 4-of-11 threes, and Kyle
Vejraska 10. Reggie Bishop
and Junard Hartley chipped in nine apiece.
Campbell, which dropped its
third-straight game, shot just 37 percent for the second half after
making 13-of-26 from the field before the break. The Camels finished 24-of-56 from the
floor (.429), 6-of-22 (.273) from 3-point range.
Allen
had eight points and JU hit seven of its first 11 shots in the
second half during a 15-6 run to open the period and take a 48-43
lead with 15:11 remaining.
The Dolphins extended the flurry to 22-8 on Allen's free throw and
led 55-45 with 9:36 left.
Campbell made just 4 of its first 19 shots (0-for-7 from 3-point
range) in the second period.
Campbell
rode a 9-1 run
late in the opening period to take a 37-33 lead at the half. After Jacksonville made 10 of
its first 18 field goals (.556), the Dolphins missed 11 of their
final 12 attempts from the floor in the opening stanza one
where the score was tied on eight occasions and the lead changed
nine times.
Wohlfeil
had eight first-half points, including a pair of three-pointers,
while Rodriguez and Preston Dodson chipped in seven each before the
break. Allen had eight
points in the opening half before picking up his third personal
foul 48 seconds before intermission.
The victory was only the
second in the last six meetings for Jacksonville in the series with
the Camels, but the Dolphins have won eight of 10 all-time meetings
in Jacksonville.
Campbell continues its two-game A-Sun
trip to River City Saturday in a 4:15 p.m. tip-off at North
Florida.
