KENNESAW, GA.
Kyle Vejraska came off the bench to score a season-high 18
points and Campbell defeated Kennesaw State 87-44 in Atlantic Sun
men's basketball action Saturday night at the KSU Convocation
Center.
The
43-point victory margin stands as Campbell's largest-ever against a
Division I opponent since the Camels joined the NCAA's top ranks in
1977-78. It also marks CU's
largest victory margin against an Atlantic Sun Conference foe and
most-decisive road win for the Camels on the Division I
level.
Jonathan
Rodriguez added 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists, Amir Celestin
chipped in 11 points and all 13 Camels scored, including walk-on
Jake Capin, who tallied a career-high 5 in CU's second-straight
victory..
Leading by 15 at the break
(40-25), the Camels (9-12, 6-6) outscored the Owls 31-7 to start
the second period. Campbell
shot 51 percent from the field, while limiting Kennesaw to 29
percent shooting, and held a 45-30 advantage on the
boards.
In the second-half alone,
Kennesaw State shot just 6-of-27 (.222) from the floor, including
only 1-of-12 (8.3 percent) from 3-point range.

just 9-of-21 (.429) free throws and only 5-of-20 (.250) from the
3-point line.
The Camels scored 26 points
off 24 Kennesaw turnovers, knocked down 12-of-22 three-pointers
(.545) and made 17-of-24 from the line (.708). CU also capitalized on 13 offensive
rebounds with a 19-8 margin in second chance points.
"The last three games,
Jonathan Rodriguez has played through his teammates exceptionally
well," said Campbell head coach Robbie Laing. "We're generating offense off the
defensive end, moving the ball on offense, and hopefully building a
little momentum."
John Allison led Kennesaw
State (6-14, 2-7) with 11 points off the bench, while Jon-Michael
Nickerson added 10, plus six rebounds.
Vejraska hit 8-of-13 shots,
pulled down 4 rebounds, and blocked two shots. Rodriguez made just 3-of-6 from the
floor, but hit 7-of-8 from the line and snagged five offensive
boards. Lorne Merthie
finished with nine points on 3-of-5 three-point
shooting.
Campbell opened up an 18-point lead
forcing Kennesaw to call three timeouts in the span
with a 22-6 run over a 6:41 stretch in the first half. Celestin's steal and lay-up in
transition gave the Camels a 39-21 lead with 3:14 to
play.
Despite the fact that leading
scorer Jonathan Rodriguez (17.1 points per game) was held to 0-1
shooting from the floor in the first period, the Camels led 40-25
at the break.

the arc.
Vejraska hit double figures
with 16 first-half points to end a string of 11-straight games in
single digits. Seven
different Camels scored in the first half. The Camels held a 13-1 edge in points
off turnovers, capitalizing on 10 first-half Owl
mistakes.
During the night, Rodriguez
(1517 career points) moved past Rodney Hamilton of Georgia State
(1515 points from 1994-98) into 23rd place on the Atlantic Sun
career scoring list.
