N.C. Freshman Brian Wright came off the bench to score a
season-high 23 points and Lipscomb defeated Campbell 83-67 Monday
night in A-Sun men's basketball action at Gore Arena.
Adnan Hodzic added 20 points
on 8-of-13 shooting and 11 rebounds for the Bisons (9-13, 5-8),
whiel Michael Lusk provided 13 points (9-of-12 free throws), seven
assists and non turnovers in 34 minutes.
Lorne Merthie and Jonathan
Rodriguez led Campbell (10-14, 7-8) with 15 points each, while
Miles Taylor and William Kossangue chipped in nine each. Matt Gwynne pulled down a
team-leading nine rebounds, while Junard Hartley dealt nine
assists.
The Camels reeled off a 16-4
run capped by Matt Gwynne's 3-pointer to claim a
21-20 lead with 7:00 left in the first half. However, Lipscomb answered with a 15-2
burst of its own and took a 38-25 advantage into the dressing
room.
Merthie's three cut the gap
to 54-48 with 12:05 remaining in the contest, but Lipscomb
responded by scoring 16 of the next 21 points to claim its largest
lead (17) of the game when Hodzic's bucket pushed the margin to
70-53 with 4:34 to go.
Lipscomb shot 54 percent
(26-48) from the floor and made seven more free throws (25-of-44)
than Campbell attempted (11-of-18). Campbell hit only 39 percent of its
shots from the floor, 6-of-26 (.231) from 3-point territory. The Camels finished with a 39-36
advantage on the boards.
Campbell, which has lost consecutive
home games for the first time this year, returns to action on
Saturday in a 4:15 p.m. tip-off at North Florida.
