BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Ellis Lowe went 4-for-5 with three RBI on the
evening as Campbell defeated MEAC foe Norfolk State, 9-3, on
Tuesday night at Taylor Field.
Campbell moves to 17-9 on the season overall with the win, while
Norfolk State drops to 7-9-1.
The Fighting Camels jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Ellis Lowe registered two RBI in those two innings with a solo shot
to left field in the first and an RBI double down the left field
line in the second. Noah Zipko and Chris Bangi both registered RBI
in the second inning as Zipko was hit by a pitch from Norfolk State
starter Ryan Davis and Bangi reached off of a fielder's choice.
Norfolk State managed to cut the lead to 4-2 as the Spartans
collected a run in the third and fifth innings off of a Sammy
Serafine solo homerun to left center in the third and a RBI double
from the bat of TiQuan Griffin in the fifth.
Campbell answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth as
Zach Johnson sent a two RBI double back up the middle of the
infield to push the Campbell lead to 6-2.
The Spartans closed the gap to 6-3 with the second homerun of the
evening for Norfolk State this time from the hands of Chris
Joyce.
The Fighting Camels finished off the evening scoring two runs in
the seventh and a run in the eighth. In the seventh it was Cameron
Nelson who came up with the clutch hit as the junior doubled to
center field to collect the first run of the seventh inning. Ben
Fish collected his third hit in a Camel uniform as he slapped a
single to right field for the second RBI of the inning.
In the eighth Lowe collected his third and final RBI as the junior
second baseman doubled down the left field line for the second time
on the evening.
For the Campbell pitching staff the contest was a group effort as
six Campbell pitchers saw action during the contest. Jeff Rydman
was credited with the win (2-0) as the senior started the contest
and went 3.1 innings while giving up just two hits and one earned
run in 40 pitches.
Norfolk State starter Ryan Davis was given the loss as he went two
innings while giving up four earned runs off of three hits. Davis
falls to 1-3 on the season.
Campbell will travel to DeLand, Fla. to face off against conference
rival Stetson this weekend. The series kicks off with a contest on
Thursday starting at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude with a
doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
