Camels top Norfolk State 9-3

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Ellis Lowe went 4-for-5 with three RBI on the evening as Campbell defeated MEAC foe Norfolk State, 9-3, on Tuesday night at Taylor Field.

Campbell moves to 17-9 on the season overall with the win, while Norfolk State drops to 7-9-1.

The Fighting Camels jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Ellis Lowe registered two RBI in those two innings with a solo shot to left field in the first and an RBI double down the left field line in the second. Noah Zipko and Chris Bangi both registered RBI in the second inning as Zipko was hit by a pitch from Norfolk State starter Ryan Davis and Bangi reached off of a fielder's choice.

Norfolk State managed to cut the lead to 4-2 as the Spartans collected a run in the third and fifth innings off of a Sammy Serafine solo homerun to left center in the third and a RBI double from the bat of TiQuan Griffin in the fifth.

Campbell answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth as Zach Johnson sent a two RBI double back up the middle of the infield to push the Campbell lead to 6-2.

The Spartans closed the gap to 6-3 with the second homerun of the evening for Norfolk State this time from the hands of Chris Joyce.

The Fighting Camels finished off the evening scoring two runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth. In the seventh it was Cameron Nelson who came up with the clutch hit as the junior doubled to center field to collect the first run of the seventh inning. Ben Fish collected his third hit in a Camel uniform as he slapped a single to right field for the second RBI of the inning.

In the eighth Lowe collected his third and final RBI as the junior second baseman doubled down the left field line for the second time on the evening.

For the Campbell pitching staff the contest was a group effort as six Campbell pitchers saw action during the contest. Jeff Rydman was credited with the win (2-0) as the senior started the contest and went 3.1 innings while giving up just two hits and one earned run in 40 pitches.

Norfolk State starter Ryan Davis was given the loss as he went two innings while giving up four earned runs off of three hits. Davis falls to 1-3 on the season.

Campbell will travel to DeLand, Fla. to face off against conference rival Stetson this weekend. The series kicks off with a contest on Thursday starting at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
