NASHVILLE,TENN.-- Belmont won both ends of Saturday's twinbill.
Winning game one by a final of 4-1 and battling back for a 9-7 game
two victory.
In Game one, Bruins
starter Nate Woods (5-5) scattered six hits, walked just one
batter, struck out four and allowed only Cam Nelson's second-inning
homer in six and 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Jon Ivie tossed
a scoreless ninth inning to record his ninth save.
Camel starter Jeff
Rydman (3-3) matched his career high with 8 strikeouts in 7 2/3
innings, but surrendered four runs off 9 hits, while walking
four.
Nelson finished
2-for-4 in the opener, while Chris Bangi and Alan Denman also had a
pair of hits for Campbell (26-24, 6-16 A-Sun). Bangi extended his
string to 47-straight games this year in which he has reached base
via a hit, walk or hit by pitch.
Mark Noth paced
Belmont (24-24, 10-11) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with RBI singles
in the 2nd and 8th frames.
In Game two, Campbell
starter Logan Davis surrendered four runs on seven hits over 6 2/3
innings, while striking out five. However, a ninth inning walk-off
grand slam by junior first baseman Nate Woods completed Belmont's
(25-24, 11-11) come from behind effort.
Campbell's Josh
Holskey finished 2-for-4 at the plate including his sixth home run
of the season, while Bryce Grady had the biggest hit of his young
career with a pinch hit three run homer in the eighth, which put
the Camels (26-25, 6-17 A-Sun) ahead by two runs headed into the
final frame.
The only hit of the
doubleheader for Belmont's Woods was the ninth inning game ender.
He finished 1-for-5 with five RBI in game two.
