NASHVILLE, TENN. - Adnan Hodzic scored 33 points - 22 in the second
half - to lead Lipscomb to a 92-81 win over Campbell Monday night
at Allen Arena.
Jordan Burgason scored 20 points, including 9-of-10 from the line,
and Brandon Brown added a season-high 18 points for Lipscomb (10-7,
5-3), which wrapped an 11-2 run around half-time and shot 65
percent (28-43) on the night.
The 2010 A-Sun player of the year, Hodzic made 12-of-16 from the
floor, 9-of-10 from the stripe, and matched his season-high scoring
effort. Lipscomb made 30-of-36 (.833) from the free throw line,
compared to just 9-of-18 for the visiting Camels.
Eric Griffin led Campbell (9-8, 3-5), which dropped its
second-straight game, with a season-high 21 points, 8 rebounds,
four steals and two blocked shots. The junior forward hit 10-of-14
from the floor and gathered in 6 offensive boards.
Lorne Merthie added 16 points, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range,
for the Camels, who hit 55.7 from the field (34-61). Junard
Hartley scored 15 points and Preston Dodson 12.
The Camels led 34-32 when Martell Jackson scored on a jumper with
1:40 to go before the half, but Lipscomb rallied for a 37-34 edge
at the break.
The Camels trailed by just 45-42 on Griffin's dunk with 15:14
remaining in the contest. However, Lipscomb outscored the Camels
20-10 over the next 7:18 and Burgason's trey with 7:55 to go
provided the hosts with their largest lead of the night
(65-52).
Marvelle Harris' lay-up trimmed the gap to 72-66 with 3:13 to go,
but Hodzic answered on the next possession and the Camels never
drew closer than seven down the stretch.
Campbell returns to action Thursday when it hosts Florida Gulf
Coast in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Gore Arena.
