Florida Gulf Coast hangs on for 68-66 win over Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Anthony Banks scored 19 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast to a 68-66 win over Campbell Thursday night at Gore Arena.

The Eagles (4-13, 1-7) ended a 6-game losing streak by making a defensive stop on the game's final possession. With 22.2 seconds to play, FGCU inbounded in its own end, but Christophe Varidel was tied up by Junard Hartley and Campbell was awarded the ball on alternating possession.

Hartley penetrated into the lane, but his contested 10-footer bounced off the rim and Marlon Rivera rebounded with 0.5 seconds to play.

After shooting 62.5 percent from the floor in the opening half, Campbell made just 11-of-30 (.367) in the second stanza and finished at 48 percent for the game. FGCU shot 42 percent from the floor, but hit 14-of-18 foul shots and converted 15 offensive rebounds into a 14-7 edge in second-chance points.

Campbell hit 9 of its first 12 shots and led 23-15 when Rico Ferguson knocked in a 12-footer with 10:40 to play. However, the Eagles responded with a 17-6 run claimed a 43-38 edge at the break.
