JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Eric Griffin, Junard Hartley and Anthony
Horton all hit career highs and Campbell defeated North Florida
76-66 Saturday night at UNF Arena.
Griffin scored 23 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.
Hartley added 16, plus 5 assists, while Horton tallied 12 of his 14
in the second half.
Preston Dodson added 8 points and 9 rebounds for Campbell (11-10,
5-6 A-Sun), which hit 54 percent of its shots in the second
period.
Parker Smith led UNF (8-14, 5-6) with 21 points on 4-of-8 threes
and 9-of-9 from the line. Jimmy Williams added 14 and Andy Diaz 12
for the Ospreys, who were out-rebounded 40-29.
Campbell led by as many as 13 and 55-44 before Diaz scored
underneath and Jerron Granberry hit back-to-back threes to pull UNF
within 55-52 with 7:43 remaining.
However, the Camels answered with an 11-2 run capped by Horton's
three with 3:56 remaining to push the gap back to 66-54.
Hartley started the burst with a runner off the glass; then Griffin
scored underneath to push the cushion to 59-52. Diaz was whistled
for an offensive foul on the next possession; then fouled Griffin
on the following trip for his fourth personal. Griffin canned both
free throws for a 61-52 lead.
Granberry missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Horton scored on a
short jump hook; then knocked down his trey from the top of the
key.
A junior forward from Orlando, Fla., Griffin made 8-of-13 from the
floor and 7-of-8 from the line. Over the last 4 games, he has made
34-of-53 shots (.642) from the field.
Hartley, a senior from Atlanta, converted 5-of-9 shots and 6-of-8
from the stripe for the Camels, who made 18-of-26 free throws
(.692) and finished with a 42-24 edge on points in the paint. A
freshman from League City, Texas, Horton made 6-of-11 shots, 5-of-7
in the second half and added 5 rebounds.
The Camels finished the night shooting 48.3 percent from the floor
(28-58), while holding UNF to 40.8 percent (20-49) shooting.
Griffin scored 15 first-half points, including a dunk in transition
with 0.1 seconds to go that gave the Camels their largest lead
(37-30) at the break.
The Camels shot 44 percent (15-34) from the field and held a 22-13
edge on the boards in the opening stanza. CU's 9 offensive
rebounds led to an 8-2 advantage in 2nd-chance points.
Smith led UNF with 13 first-point points, including 7-of-7 from the
line and 2-of-5 from 3-point range. The Ospreys made just 8-of-22
shots (.364) before intermission. However, UNF hit 12-of-15 (.800)
from the free throw line during the same span.
Campbell ended a 4-game road losing streak and defeated the Ospreys
for the 8th time in the last 10 games in the series.
The Camels continue their trip on Monday in a 7:15 p.m. tip-off at
Jacksonville.
