JACKSONVILLE, FLA.-Jimmy Howick's bases loaded, two out, two RBI
base hit in the bottom of the ninth propelled Jacksonville past
Campbell, 11-10, scoring two runs to complete a three run rally
Friday night at John Sessions Stadium.
JU improves to 21-13 overall and 11-5 in Atlantic Sun games, while
the Camels fall to 15-22 on the year and 2-14 in conference
games.
Trailing 10-8 heading into their final at-bat, the Dolphins led off
with a pair of singles. With runners on second and third, Daniel
Gulbransen notched a base hit to left, scoring one with one away in
the frame. After a strikeout, Howick sent a 1-0 offering back up
the middle, scoring two to win it for JU.
The Camels broke a 6-6 knot in the top of the eighth when Jimmy
Brenneman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Ellis
Lowe, playing in his 200th career game as a Camel,
then chopped one into left field, scoring two before the Dolphins
clawed for two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Sean Green picked up the win for JU to move to 2-0 on the year,
tossing one inning with two hits, one run and one walk. Matthew
Tomshaw went the first 7 1/3 of the contest, allowing eight runs,
six earned, on 10 hits with seven punch outs and two walks.
Jake
Smith was charged with the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season
after allowing three runs on three hits, while walking two in an
inning of work. CU starter Frank
Zier scattered five runs, three earned, on nine hits while
fanning seven and walking four.
Adam Brett Walker and Howick each drove in two for the Dolphins,
with Walker posting a 3-for-4, two run day. Gulbransen and Chris
Moye also recorded three hit nights. Esterlin Perozo and Jonathan
Murphy each scored two runs while combining for four hits in the
win.
Brenneman joined Lowe with two RBIs in the loss, while Alan
Denman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Cameron
Nelson scored three times, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a

Briley also picked up RBIs for the Camels.
The Camels and Dolphins will continue their series tomorrow with a
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Next up for Campbell will be a
midweek tilt at North Carolina State on Tuesday, April 19.
