BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Darren White scored 28 of his career-high 36 points in the second half and Campbell ran past Appalachian State 101-82 Friday night at Gore Arena.

In front of the fifth-largest crowd (2873) in the five-year history of the building, Campbell set an Arena record for field goal percentage (.667) by connecting on 42-of-63 from the floor.

White made 15-of-19 from the floor (12-of-15 in the second period) and 5-of-6 from the line to break the previous Gore Arena record (33) he set twice last year, vs. North Carolina A&T and Methodist.

Darian Hooker added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Reco McCarter added a season-high 13 for the Camels (2-1).  Trey Freeman chipped in 9 points and 9 assists with 0 turnovers, while Antwon Oliver hit his season-best with 9 points and 6 boards in 18 minutes off the bench.

Nathan Healy, Tab Hamilton and Tevin Baskin lead Appalachian (1-2) with 18 points each.  Jamaal Trice contributed 14 points and 7 assists for the Mountaineers, who shot 45.9 percent from the floor and finished with a 37-29 edge on the glass, but made only 17-of-31 (.548) from the stripe.

Campbell converted 15 Mountaineer turnovers into 22 points and finished with a 23-0 edge in fast-break points.

The Camels led by as many as 22 (70-48) with 14:53 remaining in the contest and Appalachian was unable to trim the margin to single figures over the last 26:57 of the game.  ASU cut the gap to 13 on three occasions over the last 4:06, but each time White responded with points, twice from the floor and 2-of-2 from the line.

Campbell made 16 of its first 23 shots (.696) and jumped in front 42-27 on Freeman's basket with 5:23 to play.  CU led by as many as 17 (55-38) in the opening period when McCarter dunked in transition after Hooker stole the ball with 43 second left in the half.

The Camels shot 65.6 percent (21-32) in the first half, 4-of-8 from 3-point range, and made 9-of-11 foul shots.  McCarter and Hooker each scored 13 points in the opening period.

Appalachian, which allowed High Point to shoot 63 percent in the first half of Tuesday's 86-64 loss, committed 11 first-half turnovers that resulted in 16 Campbell points.

The Camels improved to 42-17 (.712) in five years at Gore Arena, 2-1 this season.

Campbell embarks on a 4-game road trip beginning Sunday (6:00 pm CST) at Iowa State.
