Baseball wins 7-2 at North Carolina A&T on Tuesday afternoon

Greensboro, N.C. – Campbell rallied twice against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 7-2 road win to move to 10-3 on the season. Jimmy Brenneman led the effort for the Camels, going two-for-four with three runs scored and two RBI.

The Aggies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as Andre McKoy hit a one-out single to put one on. Marquis Riley followed with a single to right and McKoy scored on a fielding error to put North Carolina A&T up 1-0 off the unearned run.

Aggie starter Ruben Torrellas got into trouble in the fourth inning, loading the bases with Camels with two outs after two singles and a hit batsman. Torrellas was able to escapt without any damage after getting Brent Graham to fly out to end the inning. Torrellas pitched well for the Aggies, scattering six hits and one earned run over five innings in the no decision.

The Camels drew even in the fifth, starting the rally with Brenneman's leadoff single. He then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ben McQuown. A balk from Torrellas set the stage for Michael Felton's sacrifice fly to bring Brenneman to the plate and even the score at 1-1.

A&T retook the lead in the sixth inning, taking advantage of a two-out single from Marquis Riley and a wild pitch that advanced him to scoring position. Dairio Little then singled home Riley to put the Aggies back in front 2-1.

Campbell again rallied to tie in the seventh inning as Brenneman notched his second run of the game off Jake Kirkland's RBI single that leveled the game at 2-2.

CU took its first lead of the day in the eighth, as it was again Brenneman that came through for the Camel offense. After Josh Holskey and Cam'Ron Summers reached base, Brenneman doubled to right field to score two runs and put Campbell in front for good. The visitors pushed across one more run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth for the final 7-2 margin.

Ryan Mattes relieved Camel starter Paul Eyster in the bottom of the seventh, and held the Aggies at bay by striking out the side. Mattes picked up the win, moving to 1-0. Matt Marksberry came on in the ninth for his second appearance of the season and struck out two to preserve the victory.

Campbell returns to action on Friday afternoon, hosting Valparaiso in the opener of a three-game series. North Carolina A&T falls to 5-8 after the loss and will play NC Central this weekend.
