RADFORD, VA. – R.J. Price scored 24 points and Radford survived a furious Campbell comeback to earn an 82-78 win over the Camels Wednesday at the Dedmon Center.
Campbell (12-18, 6-9 Big South) trailed by as many as 16 and by 12 with 5:48 to play before tying the contest at 73.
Jalen Carethers' 3-point play pushed the Radford advantage to 69-57 before the Camels went on a 16-4 tear. Andrew Ryan and Luke Moyer both hit a pair of triples and D.J. Mason added 4 points in the burst that was capped when Ryan connected on a deep 3 with 2:03 to play.
Price answered on the next possession with a triple from the key and Radford made 6-of-8 free throws in the last 50.5 seconds to secure the win. Campbell had one last chance to tie the score, but Ryan's off balance attempt from 23 feet hit the front of the rim and Javonte Green rebounded with 2 seconds to go.
Campbell tied a season-high with 13 three-pointers (in 24 attempts) and made 9-of-12 in the final period. Ryan and D.J. Mason (8 rebounds) led four Camels in double figures with 18 points apiece. Luke Moyer added 12, Reco McCarter 10 and Leek Leek scored all 9 of his points on second-half 3-pointers.
"We were a little bit more aggressive in the second half," said Campbell head coach Kevin McGeehan. "It started by being a little bit better on the defensive end, rebounding more and the ball seems to go your way and shots go in when that happens. We played one of our better halves of the season, really competed and gave ourselves a chance to win."
Price made 5-of-9 threes and 5-of-6 from the line for Radford (19-11, 9-6), which shot 52.8 percent (28-53) for the game, made 10-of-19 threes (.526) and 16-of-22 (.727) from the stripe while committing just 5 turnovers. Kion Brown came off the bench to contribute 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Ya Ya Anderson added 11, going 3-of-5 from downtown.
The Camels shot 53.4 percent on the night, 64.5 percent (20-31) in the second half, but made 17 turnovers, which Radford converted into an 18-7 edge in points off miscues. CU went to the free throw line just 5 times (making 3), but finished with a 33-20 advantage on the boards.
Radford ended a 4-game losing streak in the series with CU and defeated the Camels for the first time since Campbell re-joined the Big South Conference in 2011-12.
After Luke Moyer connected from long range to bring the Camels within 21-20 with 9:23 left in the opening half, the Highlanders went on a 10-2 run and outscored Campbell 19-7 to close the period.
Radford hit 6 of its first 10 three-pointers, 4-of-6 by Price, who scored 14 points before intermission, and led 40-27 at the break.
The Highlanders shot 54.8 percent (17-31) from the field in the opening half. Campbell made 11-of-27 (.407), including 4-of-12 triples. Mason came off the bench to tally 9 first-half points on 3-of-4 shooting.

- Senior forward Marvelle Harris came off the bench in the first half and grabbed 1 rebound in 3 minutes after missing the last 11 games with a foot injury.
- Campbell needs a win Friday night at High Point or a loss by Liberty Saturday at home vs. Radford to clinch fourth place in the Big South North Division standings. Radford will be the third seed in the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championship.
