Oklahoma State pulls away late from Camels

STILLWATER, OKLA. – Jawun Evans, Phil Forte and Jeffrey Carroll combined for 78 points and Oklahoma State pulled away late in a 102-65 win over Campbell Friday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The 2016 Big 12 freshman of the year, Evans scored 26 of his game-high 34 in the first half, and finished 11-of-18 from the field and 10-of-11 from the line. Forte hit 7-of-15 shots from the floor, while Carroll came off the bench to hit 9-of-15 from the field and grab 9 rebounds in 16 minutes for the Cowboys (1-0).

Chris Clemons, the 2016 Big South freshman of the year, led Campbell (0-1) with 16 points, including 4-of-8 threes.  Shane Whitfield added 12 points, making 8-of-11 from the stripe and pulled down seven rebounds. Khadre' Lane (13) and freshman Cory Gensler (11) both hit double digits off the bench for the Camels, who made just 32 percent of their shots (18-56) and hit 10-of-26 threes.

Campbell rode a 10-0 run to take a 30-26 lead over the Cowboys when Eudy scored underneath with 8:01 left in the half.  However, Evans ignited a 13-0 OSU burst with nine points and the Cowboys lead reached 19 late in the half before the Camels trimmed the margin to 52-37 at the break.

Clemons' 3-point play and Gensler's triple brought the Camels within 62-53 with 14:33 left.  CU then had two possessions with the chance to trim the gap further, but could not convert.  The Cowboys rode a 15-1 burst late to seal the victory.

OSU finished with a 48-16 edge on points in the paint and 23-6 in fast break points while finishing 34-of-71 (.479) from the floor.  OSU hit just 8-of-26 threes, but made 26-of-38 from the line, 19-of-26 in the first period.

Led by Cameron McGriff's 13 boards, Oklahoma State had a 52-35 edge on the glass and scored 28 points off 23 Campbell turnovers.

Campbell returns home Tuesday to host Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m. in the Camels' home opener.
