BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell jumped to a 25-7 lead and went on to its largest victory margin in the program's Division I era (since '77-78) Tuesday in a 101-45 win over Bridgewater at Gore Arena.
Chris Clemons scored 23 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half, while freshmen Damontez Oliver and Cory Gensler added 10 apiece for the Camels (1-1), who led by as many as 57 late in the game.
The 56-point win margin surpassed a 52-point triumph over Ferrum on Jan. 3, 1994.
Clemons hit 8 of his first 9 shots and finished the night 10-of-12 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point distance for the Camels, who shot 61.7 percent from the field and canned 12-of-20 three-pointers, plus 15-of-17 from the line.
Marcus Burk, Mogga Lado and Nick Parker came off the bench to add nine points each for the Camels, who held a 44-20 edge on points in the paint and 21-6 on the fast break.
Clemons produced his 12th 20-plus point outing in his 32nd career game when he hit a pair of free throws with 3:32 left in the opening half. Gensler (4-of-5 from the field) and Lado (3-of-3) pulled down six rebounds each for the Camels, who assisted on 25 of 37 made field goals. Gensler (22) was the lone Camel to play more than 20 minutes.
Campbell hit 18-of-30 shots in the opening half and led 46-22 at the break. CU used a 27-2 run midway through the final half and held Bridgewater without a field goal for more than 7:00. Parker, a junior walk-on from nearby Triton High School, hit a step-back 19-footer to give the Camels their largest lead (92-35) with 2:44 to play.
Jacob Talbert stole the ball and fed Parker for a breakaway layup with 10 seconds left to send Campbell over the 100-point mark for the third time in the last two seasons.
Efe Balfour led Bridgewater with 15 points on 4-of-4 from the field and 7-of-13 from the line.
Campbell returns to action Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off at Morgan State before hosting Samford next Monday (Nov. 21).
