FARMVILLE, VA. – Campbell swept Sunday's doubleheader at Longwood, 6-3 and 2-0, to win its Big South series at Bolding Stadium.
Campbell moved to 22-19 on the season and 9-6 in Big South play, while Longwood dipped to 23-18 overall and 8-7 in conference games.
After Longwood scored three in the bottom of the first inning of Sunday's opener, Grant Yost and Michael Horrell pitched 17 straight scoreless innings.
Campbell took game one of the day 6-3 behind Yost's (6-2) fourth straight complete game effort.
Yost allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits, striking out nine without a walk. Over his last four starts, the senior right-hander is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA, striking out 28 with only three walks.
Cody Wager (2-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of relief. LU starter Steven Farkas went 4 1/3, allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Cody Boydstun surrendered a run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 2 1/3.
Brian Taylor's third home run of the season, a two run shot in the fifth, tied the game at 3-all. An Anthony Lopez RBI fielder's choice in the sixth put the Camels on top, and Matt Parrish, who went 3-for-4, scored on a wild pitch an inning later to make it 5-3 Campbell.
Ben Calvano's RBI single in the ninth added a run, extending the CU lead to 6-3.
Horrell (4-4) recorded his first career complete game shutout, scattering six hits with four strikeouts and walking two. The complete game was the second straight for the freshman.
Over his last four starts, Horrell owns a 0.85 ERA over 31 2/3, allowing only three earned runs with 24 strikeouts and four walks.
Luke Simpson (0-2) took the loss, allowing a run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 7 1/3. Devin Gould allowed an unearned run with two walks in 1/3 of an inning in relief. Ryan Jones also struck out four in 1/3 scoreless.
After seven scoreless innings, Campbell broke through with two runs in the eighth. With two away and the bases loaded, Junior Snow scored on a wild pitch and Adam Wyse scored on a LU error.
Horrell retired his final eight batters to seal the win.
Campbell will remain on the road next week, heading to UNC Greensboro on Tuesday, April 26, and North Carolina Wednesday, April 27 before the exam break.
The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on May 6, beginning a three game Big South series with Presbyterian.
