Camels host Allen in Friday matinee

2 pm start in final game before Big South play opens

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell concludes non-conference play Friday when the Camels host NAIA member Allen University in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off at Gore Arena.

The Camels (5-6) are coming off a 74-66 loss Tuesday at Atlantic-10 member Saint Louis.  Chris Clemons (28) and Marcus Burk (20) combined for 48 points, but CU could not overcome the Billikens, who made 10 more free throws (29-42) than the visitors attempted (15-19).

Allen (9-3, 4-3) was picked to finish 7th in the Appalachian Athletic Conference pre-season poll, but the Yellow Jackets have won 5 of their last 7 games, most recently a 90-76 victory over Division II Fayetteville State on Dec. 9.

One of the nation's top shooting teams, Campbell enters Friday's game leading the Big South Conference in overall (.495) and 3-point (.419) field goal percentage, while ranking 2nd in free throw accuracy (.725).  CU rates 14th in the country in 3-point percentage (.419) and 32nd in overall shooting accuracy (.495).

Clemons (24.1 ppg) would rank on top of the Big South (and 3rd in D1) scoring list if he had played in 75 percent of CU's games, but the junior has missed three of 11 outings.  Instead, Burk owns the league scoring lead (18.5) and also tops the Big South in field goal (.562) and 3-point (.477) percentage. He has scored at least 20 points 7 times in the last 9 outings and dealt a career-high 7 assists vs. The Citadel.

Clemons has moved into  6th place on CU's all-time scoring list with 1653 points, just 8 behind No.-5 Mike Reidy (1661 from 1960-64).  He has extended the nation's longest active double-figure scoring streak to 59 games.

Allen senior Quincy Washington (28.1) and sophomore Brandon Moore (20.7) rank 1-2 among Appalachian Athletic Conference scoring leaders.

Following Friday's contest, Campbell opens Big South Conference play Dec. 30 at UNC Asheville.
