BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Chris Clemons and Shane Whitfield combined for 45 points and Campbell held off Longwood 83-79 Thursday night at Gore Arena.

Clemons scored 25 points, dealt 5 assists and had 4 steals, while Whitfield added 20 on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 from the line for the Camels (12-13, 5-8 Big South), who ended a three-game losing streak.  Freshmen Cory Gensler and Marcus Burk added 13 apiece for Campbell, which led by as many as 11, then rallied down the stretch.

Isaiah Walton scored a career-high 28 points and Darrion Allen added 18 for Longwood, which lost its 10th in a row.  Khris Lane, who had 30 points in a 79-77 Longwood win over the Camels Dec. 29 at Farmville, Va., finished with 11, plus nine rebounds, while Chris Shields and Isaac Belton added 10 apiece.

Longwood (6-18, 3-10) trailed 63-52 after Clemons scored with 10:34 to play, but the Lancers outscored CU 19-7 over the next 7:56. Belton's spin move in the lane with 2:38 remaining gave Longwood a 71-70 edge, its first lead since the 12:46 mark of the opening half.

However Clemons drove the lane on the next possession and found Burk open on the right wing for a triple to put the Camels right back in front.  The visitors cut the gap to one point three more times, the last when Allen completed a 3-point play with 32 seconds left.

But Whitfield made a pair of foul shots after a flagrant one foul was called on Lane with 24.6 ticks remaining.  Clemons then hit 3-of-4 from the line in the last 13.7 seconds to seal the victory.

The nation's seventh-leading scorer, Clemons made 8-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the line for his 18th 20-plus point outing in 25 games this year.  Campbell finished with a 15-2 advantage in second-chance points and had a 28-23 edge on the boards.

Longwood, which had only eight players in uniform due to injuries, shot 58 percent on the night (26-45), made 6-of-11 threes, and 21-of-27 from the line.  Campbell finished 29-of-53 (.547) from the floor, made 6-of-18 triples and the Big South's top free throw shooting team canned 19-of-24 (.792) from the stripe.

Longwood hit its first four shots to take an early 10-4 lead, but the Camels rode a 12-3 run to move in front 25-17 on Burks' corner three with 10:03 to play. 

The Camels led 45-39 at the break thanks to a 13-2 edge in second-chance points.  Longwood shot 64 percent (14-22) from the floor in the opening half, but the Camels made 55 percent of their shots, including 5-of-12 beyond the arc, before intermission.

Gensler scored 13 first-half points, Clemons had 11 and Whitfield 11 for the Camels, who out-rebounded Longwood 14-8 in the opening period.

Walton finished 9-of-13 overall from the field and 9-of-10 from the line, but committed seven turnovers.  He scored 18 of his 28 in the second half.

The Camels return to action Saturday in a 4:30 p.m. tip-off at Presbyterian.
