Kipkoech breaks the school record in the mile

LEXINGTON, Va. – Lawrence Kipkoech set the school record in the mile to highlight Campbell's performances on day two at the Keydet Invitational on Saturday.

Kipkoech set a new school record in the event with a time of 4:06.34 to finish in second place at VMI. He broke Chris Schulist's record of 4:08.11, which he set during the 2014 season. The Eldoret, Kenya, native's time is the fifth fastest time in the history of the Big South.

CU recorded nine top-10 finishes at the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, including five in the distance events, two in the jumps, one in the pole vault and one in the 4x400m relay.

"As a whole, we are definitely starting to see the team come around," said head coach Michael Kelly. "The sprinters are getting closer to where they left off last year and our distance group had a solid indoor opener today as well."

Kelly continued, "Lawrence's school record in the mile was definitely one of the highlights of the meet this weekend."

Brett Parks cleared the 4.30m bar in the pole vault to earn a three way tie for ninth place. This is Parks' first time posting a height in the event so far in the 2017-18 indoor season.

Darius Prescott posted a final mark of 1.90m in the high jump on Saturday afternoon to earn 10th place among all competitors. His mark is just 0.03m off of his lifetime best of 1.93m that he set at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on Dec. 3.
