LYNCHBURG, VA. – With wins in five of the last six games, Campbell begins a challenging Big South Conference stretch Tuesday when the Camels travel to Liberty for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Vines Center.
Campbell (11-9, 5-3) is coming off Sunday's 59-56 victory at Gore Arena over Big South leader Radford.
Chris Clemons sank a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining - his 2nd game-winning buzzer beater in 9 days - to lift the Camels to their 8th win in the last 9 games at home.
In spite of the fact that CU produced its lowest point total of the year in each of the last four outings, the Camels are off to their best start in conference play (5-3) since the 2013-14 campaign, Coach
Kevin McGeehan's first year in Buies Creek.
A portion of that success is a result of Campbell holding its last four opponents to just 38 percent shooting from the field, 30 percent (21-70) from 3-point distance.
Liberty (12-9, 3-5), meanwhile, has dropped its last four contests, including Sunday's 84-68 setback at home vs. UNC Asheville.
The Big South Conference's best-shooting (.488) and 2nd-highest scoring (79.2) team - Campbell - meets a Liberty squad that leads the league in scoring defense (62.0), a mark that ranks 8th in the country, and field goal percentage defense (.403).
Clemons, the pre-season Big South player of the year, sits on top of the Big South (24.2) scoring charts and rates 5th nationally. Clemons owns the nation's longest active double-figure scoring streak (68 games) and stands 8th in the country in free throws made (126), 19th in free throw percentage (.900).
Junior guard Lovell Cabbil (12.4) and sophomore forward Scottie James (11.7), a transfer from Bradley, top the Flames attack.
Following Tuesday's game, Campbell continues its road swing Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. tip at defending champion Winthrop.
