BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The two hottest teams in the Big South Conference square off Saturday when Campbell travels to Rock Hill, S.C., to meet Winthrop in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
In a rematch of last year's Big South Championship final, Campbell (12-9, 6-3) carries a three game win streak - as well as victories in six of its last seven contests - into Saturday's matchup.
Since dropping 3-straight league contests, including an 88-77 decision Jan. 6 at Campbell, Winthrop (12-8, 6-3) has reeled off five-consecutive wins. The defending champs are coming off a 95-78 victory Wednesday at Longwood. Xavier Cooks led five Eagles in double figures with 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting.
Three weeks ago,
Chris Clemons scored 33 points to lead the Camels over the Eagles at Gore Arena. CU hit 58 percent of its shots and knocked down 31-of-37 free throws.
Marcus Burk added 17 points and
Mogga Lado came off the bench to score a career-high 14. Cooks led Winthrop with 24 points and 12 boards.
Campbell is coming off an historic shooting display Tuesday at Liberty. Clemons and Burk hit 10 three apiece - the first time in NCAA Division I history teammates have accomplished that feat in the same game - to spark the Camels to a 94-85 win over a Flames team that entered the game ranked 8th nationally in scoring defense (62.0). Clemons finished with a season-high 42 points and Burk had 32, one shy of his career-high.

Marcus Burk combined for 74 points and 20 three-point field goals to lead Campbell to a 94-85 win over Liberty Tuesday night at the Vines Center. Clemons broke his own school record for points in a road game with 42, including 10-of-14 from 3-point distance, while Burk finished 10-of-16 from long range in a 32-point effort, one shy of his career record. Clemons and Burk became the first teammates in NCAA Division I history to make 10 three-pointers each in the same game. Campbell finished 23-of-33 (.697) from long distance – shattering the school record of 16 triples. The Camels won their third-straight game and sixth in the last seven outings while breaking VMI's record of 21 for most 3s ever in a Big South game against Charleston Southern on Jan. 13, 2007.
Winthrop shot 66 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away from Longwood 95-78 Wednesday at Farmville, Va. The Eagles used a 22-2 run in the final period to overcome a 3-point halftime deficit and finished with a 25-12 edge in points off turnovers. Xavier Cooks led 5 Eagles in double figures with 26 points, plus 6 assists. Anders Broman (18), Kyle Zunic (14), Bjorn Broman (11) and Adam Pickett (10) also hit double-digits as the Eagles won their fifth-straight outing.
GREAT START
- With six victories in its first nine conference games, Campbell is off to its best start in Big South play since the 2011-12 squad opened 8-2.
CAMELS ON TARGET
- Campbell enters Saturday's contest 21st nationally (and first in the Big South Conference) in team field goal percentage (.493). In 9 games against Big South competition, the Camels are shooting 47.9 percent from the floor - 3rd in the league.
- The Camels stand 2nd overall among Big South schools in free throw accuracy (.748) behind Liberty (.794). In league games, CU is shooting 79.9% from the line. Individually, Chris Clemons is shooting 88.3% from the stripe overall (tied for 1st in the league), 88.1% in conference play.

- The team that has led at half-time has won the last seven meetings between the Camels and Eagles. Campbell led 50-38 midway through its Jan. 6 win over Winthrop at Gore Arena.
- Since re-joining the Big South in 2011-12, Campbell is 6-7 overall against Winthrop, 2-4 at the Winthrop Coliseum.
- Winthrop is 7-2 at home this year, 3-1 vs. Big South foes at the Coliseum.
- The Eagles have won 32 of their last 40 Big South regular season games.
- All five Winthrop starters are averaging in double figures in conference action - Xavier Cooks (17.2), Bjorn Broman (13.6), Adam Pickett (12.1), Anders Broman (11.2) and Josh Ferguson (11.1).
- Top-seeded Winthrop claimed the 2017 Big South title on its home court last Mar. 5 by a 76-59 margin over the seventh-seeded Camels. Chris Clemons had 29 points to lead CU, while Xavier Cooks turned in a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards for the Eagles, who made 20-of-26 free throws, compared to just 6-of-7 for the visitors.
Following Saturday's game, the Camels return home Thursday (Feb. 1) to host pre-season favorite UNC Asheville in a 7:00 p.m. start.
