Last time out
Monmouth held off visiting Campbell 38-21 in the Big South opener for both squads at Kessler Stadium. The contest was the Big South debut for the Camels (5-2, 0-1 Big South), who spent the program's first 10 seasons in the Pioneer Football League (2008-17). Monmouth moved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in Big South play, ending Campbell's three-game winning streak.

Redshirt freshman Caleb Snead set Campbell single-game records with 188 receiving yards and 10 catches, adding two touchdowns. Juwon Farri rushed for 239 yards and two touchdowns for the Hawks.

Leading the Camels
Daniel Smith owns 1,397 yards and 12 touchdowns passing, adding another 495 yards rushing and 10 more scores on the ground for the Camels. With his first quarter, 12-yard TD run at Monmouth, Smith became the first QB in Big South history to throw and rush for 10 touchdowns in a single season.

Snead owns team-highs of 529 receiving yards and six TDs, while Aaron Blockmon has tallied 453 yards and three scores. Rocky Reid adds 376 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

Jack Ryan leads the defense with 59 total stops, including 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. Dorian Jones chips in 40 tackles, while Deontae Henderson owns two interceptions and Damien Dozier has posted 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

CU defense at it again
The CU defense has picked up right where it left off in 2017, posting 17 takeaways through seven games, including two more fumble recoveries at Monmouth. The Camels picked off two Chowan passes in its 2018 opener, then forced and recovered three Georgetown fumbles in week two, adding another interception against Coastal Carolina, and picked off a Shaw pass in week four. Against North Alabama, the Camels recovered two fumbles before collecting six takeaways against Wagner.

Last season, the Camels ranked among the nation's leaders (10th) in takeaways (27), aided by a school record 19 interceptions. Campbell has now posted a takeaway in 33 consecutive games (dating back to October 17, 2015 at Stetson), including all seven games this season. Over that span (5 games in 2015, 10 in 2016, 11 in 2017, 7 in 2018), the Camels have posted 74 total takeaways, including 46 interceptions and recovered 28 fumbles. Campbell ranks 12th in the FCS in takeaways, including eight interceptions (ranking 30th in the FCS) and nine fumble recoveries (ranking fifth in the FCS).

Big crowds in the Creek
A greater than capacity crowd of 6,352 turned out for Campbell's week five matchup against North Alabama and accounted for Barker-Lane Stadium's 15th sellout since the facility was expanded to 5,500 seats in 2013, and second of 2018. The crowd marked the eighth-largest crowd in Barker-Lane Stadium's history. Campbell has averaged a sellout in each of the past two seasons, joining only Montana State and Mercer as one of three programs in FCS to accomplish the feat. Barker-Lane Stadium has set an overall attendance record in two straight, and five of the last six seasons.

Three of the four largest crowds in Barker-Lane Stadium history have come on the last three homecoming dates, including last season's record 6,691.

Snead takes third Big South Freshman of the Week honor
After a record-setting performance in Campbell's Big South debut, Caleb Snead has been named the conference's freshman of the week.

Snead, a redshirt freshman, set Campbell single-game records with 188 receiving yards and 10 catches, adding two touchdowns in the Camels' 38-21 loss at Monmouth. The Lynchburg, Va. native passed Aaron Blockmon's previous all-time receiving yards high of 180 yards (9/10/16 at Chowan) and Preston Dodson's former receptions mark of nine (9/24/11 vs Jacksonville). The rookie's 188 receiving yards are the second most by a FCS freshman this season (Dev Holmes, Albany, 238 yards, 8 catches).

Snead's 529 receiving yards this season are already a Campbell freshman record, and the third most ever by a Camel. His six TD catches are also a CU rookie record and the second most ever by a Campbell receiver (10, Blockmon, 2016).

The honor marks Snead's third Big South Freshman of the Week nod (9/10, 9/17). Snead has been named to the STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award watch list, named for the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver and presented in the postseason to the FCS freshman player of the year.

Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-6 overall and 0-1 in Big South games this season, dropping six-straight since taking a 52-17 win over Division II Limestone in their opener. GWU, however, has faced three top-ranked FCS opponents, including No. 2 Kennesaw State, No. 5 North Carolina A&T and No. 6 Wofford, plus East Tennessee State, which is currently No. 25, and Appalachian State, who cracked the FBS top-25 this week at No. 25.

Jayln Cagle owns 318 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Kyle Horton has picked up a team-high 338 receiving yards on 27 catches for GWU. Jordan Smith has thrown for 967 yards and three TDs, but has yielded 10 interceptions. Corey Horne adds 64 tackles, including 1.0 sack.

Saturday will mark the first meeting between the Camels and Bulldogs.

Next up
The Camels head to league-leader and unanimously nationally ranked (AFCA Coaches' and STATS FCS) No. 2 Kennesaw State on November 3.
