Camels head to Abilene Christian Tuesday

CU has won 3 of its last 4 outings

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell travels to Southland Conference member Abilene Christian Tuesday (7 pm CST) in its final outing before the fall term exam break.

The Camels (4-3) are coming off a 79-29 win over Trinity Baptist last Thursday in a game where CU set Gore Arena records for fewest points allowed in a game (29) and half (14).  Chris Clemons scored 22 points in just 23 minutes; Cory Gensler added 15 and the Camels extended a 23-point halftime lead to as many as 53.

Campbell has won 3 of its last 4 games, the only setback coming Nov. 24 at Georgetown (93-85).

Abilene Christian (7-1) is coming off its first loss of the year, a 77-62 setback Saturday at Pepperdine.  Jaren Lewis led the Wildcats with 15 points; Jaylen Franklin added 12, plus 7 rebounds and 8 assists, while Jalone Friday chipped in 11.

The Wildcats are off to their best start since returning to the Division I level in 2013-14.  ACU's 7-0 start included a title in the Pacific Tigers Thanksgiving Classic, where it topped CAA member Elon (72-56) and host Pacific of the WCC (73-71) on Franklin's buzzer-beater.

ACU topped the Camels 85-80 in overtime in last year's Creek Classic at Gore Arena.  Jaren Lewis scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, while Tevin Foster added 15, plus 7 assists.  Jalone Friday came off the bench to tally 14 points and 8 boards. Marcus Burk led Campbell with 22, while Chris Clemson added 16, plus 6 assists.

Chris Clemons leads the nation in scoring (32.1 ppg) and has been named Big South player of the week 3 times this season.  He has extended his double-figure scoring streak to 89 games, the longest among all active players and fifth-best in NCAA Division I history.

Campbell leads the Big South Conference and ranks 6th nationally in steals (9.1), paced by Trey Spencer (2.1, T1st BSC), Clemons (2.0, 5th) and Ja'Cor Nelson (1.9, 6th).
