Camels host Flames Sunday in key Big South contest

Regional TV audience on Stadium network

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – With seeding for the 2018 Big South Championship at stake, Campbell hosts Liberty Sunday in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off that will be televised by Stadium.

The Camels (14-13, 8-7) and Flames (17-11, 8-7) are tied for fourth place in the league standings, one game behind Radford (9-6) and three behind co-leaders UNC Asheville (11-4) and Winthrop.

Campbell is coming off a 72-53 loss Thursday at Radford. Chris Clemons scored 20 points, but the Camels shot just 37 percent from the floor.

Since falling to Campbell 94-85 on Jan. 23 in Lynchburg, Liberty has won 5 of its last 6 outings, including an 82-69 OT decision Thursday at Asheville.

Scottie James scored 23 points - including a late bucket to force overtime - and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Flames, who outscored the Bulldogs 13-0 in OT.

Last month at Liberty, Clemons and Marcus Burk became the first teammates in NCAA Division I history to each make 10 three-pointers in the same game and the Camels out-gunned the Flames 94-85.  Clemons broke his own school record for points in a road game with 42, including 10-of-14 from 3-point distance, while Burk finished 10-of-16 from long range in a 32-point effort, one shy of his career high.  Campbell made 23-of-33 (.697) from long distance – shattering the school record of 16 triples.  CU opened the night on a 14-0 run and made its first 5 from long distance.

LAST TIME OUT
Campbell – Radford opened the game on a 25-4 run and went on to defeat Campbell 72-53 Thursday night at the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders (16-12, 9-6) ended a three-game losing streak and took over possession of third place in the Big South standings with three games remaining in the regular season.  Campbell (14-13, 8-7) saw its two-game win streak halted and dropped into a fourth place tie with Liberty.  Carlik Jones led Radford 17 points. The Highlanders shot 57 percent in the second half (12-21) and finished the game with a 39-24 edge on the boards.  Chris Clemons led Campbell with 20 points and extended his Division I-leading double figure scoring streak to 75 games.

Liberty - Scottie James scored 23 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and forced overtime with a bucket just before the final horn in the Flames' 82-69 OT victory Thursday at UNC Asheville.  Lovell Cabbil added 16 points and 6 assists for Liberty, which hit 4-of-5 shots in the extra period and held Asheville 0-6 from the floor. Ryan Kemrite hit 5-of-9 threes to finish with 15 points. Ahmad Thomas led the Bulldogs with 30 points
